CYO Sports

About

CYO programs seek to help young men and women appreciate Christ’s presence in their opponents, use their physical gifts and play fairly and enthusiastically, both on and off the field. Through programs and training linked to parish life, CYO offers young people, coaches and their families another opportunity to work together in communion, showing the world a new vision of competition in sports.

The Basilica of Saint Mary’s CYO sports programs are open to all youth whose families are members of the parish community, whether students at the Basilica School, in our CCD program, or are homeschooled.

The Basilica of Saint Mary CYO is part of the Diocese of Arlington NVJCYO, made up of 7,000 student athletes who play a CYO sport annually. Last year across the Diocese, 3,500 children from 50 diocesan schools participated in basketball, 700-800 participated in fall track, 700-800 participated in spring track, 850 participated in volleyball, 750 participated in cross country and 300 participated in tennis.

The Basilica of Saint Mary CYO had more than 700 student athletes participating during the 2022-2023 school year, representing 75% of the student body of the Basilica School of Saint Mary, making the Basilica CYO program the largest in the Diocese of Arlington.

During the 2022-2023 school year, the Basilica CYO program had 120 children participate in track, 100 children participate in cross country, 175 children participate in tennis, 275 children participate in basketball and 75 children participate in volleyball. These sports were made possible with the support and dedication of more than 100 dedicated, OPCYP compliant adult volunteers.
