40 Days for Life Campaign

The Basilica of Saint Mary takes part in 40 Days for Life. Through prayer, fasting, and local outreach we pray for an end to abortion and the respect for all life from conception to natural death. We pray that this will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in our city — and beyond.

40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. The mission of the campaign is to bring together the body of Christ in a spirit of unity during a focused 40-day campaign of prayer, fasting, and peaceful activism, with the purpose of repentance, to seek God’s favor to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion.

Life Chain

Show your support of the unborn in a non-confrontational way by participating in Life Chain.

Respect Life Month

The first Sunday in October (Respect Life Month) is observed as Respect Life Sunday and kicks off Respect Life Month, which is held annually throughout the country in October.

The goal each year is to help Catholics understand, value, and become engaged with supporting the dignity of the human person, especially the gift of every person’s life.

At the Basilica of Saint Mary, we participate in Respect Life Month by praying the rosary for the unborn and pregnant mothers, participating in the 40 Days for Life, donating items to the MaRiH Center in Alexandria, hosting a Life Chain at the beginning of the month, and praying during the parish Holy Hour once a month.
