Christ House Dinners

Founded in 1973, Christ House provides food to the hungry, shelter to the homeless, and clothing to those in need. Christ House helps individuals recognize their abilities, develop self-sufficiency, and maintain their self-respect. It offers limited assistance to individuals needing help to pay their rent, utility bills, prescription bills, and other expenses.

Our volunteers give back in a variety of ways at Christ House. At the Thrift Shop, we engage in the corporal works of mercy by accepting, sorting, and organizing clothing donations. All donations are meticulously marked and displayed to help guests find what they need.

The food pantry is the busiest section of Christ House, which is why parishioners from we volunteer there every week. We receive, weigh, check, sort, and organize all food donations, a large amount of them coming from fellow parishioners. Every fifth Tuesday of the month, a group of parishioners prepares and serves a hot meal to all the guests at Christ House. When guests arrive, they are greeted with a friendly smile and are quickly given a warm meal. Kitchen volunteers help prepare and cook the food, while others assemble recipe meal bags with available supplies.

The food pantry at Christ House is open for clients on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – 1p.m. Additionally, they serve a warm meal for 50-65 guests each night of the year. We are always in need of more volunteers! We need you to help fill a variety of roles. Volunteers work in our food pantry, staff our Thrift Shop, assist with the evening meal, answer our phones and provide information and referrals to people coming to us in need. Volunteers help out with painting, cleaning windows and rugs and washing dishes.

In February 2017, St. Mary’s won the Bishop Paul Loverde Award in recognition for their support of Christ House.
