2026 KofC Free Throw Competition followed by Middle School F3

Please join us for the annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw Competition hosted by The Basilica of Saint Mary! This beloved parish event invites children ages 9–14 to showcase their basketball free-throw skills in a fun, spirited environment. Participants have the opportunity to advance to the Knights of Columbus District and State level competitions, continuing the tradition of friendly competition and community involvement.

• 7:00–8:30 PM | Grades 6–8 — Middle School F3 Night, featuring prayer, games, and community, led by our High School Leadership Team
Cost: Free — Come ready to have fun and support each other!

Note: Students in Grades 6–8 who participate in the Free Throw Competition are welcome to transition to F3 at 7:00 PM.

All competitors must complete an official Free Throw Entry Form and Permission Slip prior to participating.

As parent/legal guardian of the participant named above, I give my permission to participate fully in The Basilica of Saint Mary's Knights of Columbus Fitzgerald Council Free Throw Competition on Friday, February 13th, 2026 at the Basilica School of Saint Mary's Gym, 400 Green Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. I agree to indemnify and hereby release the Most Reverend Michael F. Burbidge of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington and his successors in office, as well as the Catholic Diocese of Arlington and all Diocesan clergy, employees, volunteers, and participating parishes and schools from any and all liability, claims, demands for personal injury, sickness and death, as well as property damage and expenses of any nature whatsoever which may be incurred by the undersigned of the participant resulting from said participant’s involvement in the above mentioned event (including transportation to and from the event). Furthermore, I on behalf of the participant hereby assume all risk of personal injury, sickness, death, damage, and expenses resulting from said participant’s involvement in the above-described event.

Informed Consent to Medical Treatment:*

I request that in my absence the above-named minor be admitted to any hospital or medical facility for diagnosis and treatment when a condition or injury arises that is serious enough that a reasonable person would seek care right away. I request and authorize physicians, dentists, and staff, duly licensed as Doctors of Medicine or Doctors of Dentistry or other such licensed technicians or nurses, to perform any diagnostic procedures, treatment procedures, operative procedures and x-ray treatment of the above minor. I have not been given a guarantee as to the results of examination or treatment. I authorize the hospital or medical facility to dispose of any specimen or tissue taken from the above-named minor. I assume full responsibility for all costs of such treatment. Further, should it be necessary for the participant to return home due to medical, disciplinary, or other reasons, I do hereby assume responsibility for the participant’s transportation home and any costs related thereto.

I authorize the Catholic Diocese of Arlington, its parishes, its schools and/or the Arlington Catholic Herald to use and publish my child’s photograph, video and/or audio recording along with their name identifying them for educational, news stories, illustration and/or marketing purposes.

About the Competition

The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is a fun and spirited athletic event that promotes sportsmanship, skill-building, and community. Boys and girls compete within their age divisions, with the opportunity for top shooters to advance to District and State-level Knights of Columbus competitions. The evening is designed to celebrate friendly competition while encouraging confidence, discipline, and encouragement among peers.

F3 — Faith, Fun & Friends

Following the Free Throw Competition, middle school students are invited to take part in F3 (Faith, Fun & Friends), a gathering for students in Grades 6–8 focused on building authentic community rooted in Christ. F3 combines prayer, games, and fellowship in a welcoming and energetic environment, and is led by our High School Leadership Team.

F3 reflects the parish’s commitment to holistic youth formation, supporting students as they grow spiritually, socially, and personally. Whether transitioning from the competition or joining just for the evening, F3 offers a meaningful way for middle schoolers to connect, belong, and grow in faith together.

To participate in F3, students must be registered annually with the Youth Apostolate. Families who have not yet completed registration are encouraged to do so in advance, as registration allows us to communicate effectively, provide proper supervision, and ensure the safety of all participants.

Whether transitioning from the Free Throw Competition or joining specifically for F3, this evening offers middle school students a meaningful opportunity to belong, be known, and grow in faith within the life of the parish.
