The Basilica to Host “Sacred Relics of the Saints: Treasures of the Church” on Tuesday, March 8, 2022

On Tuesday, March 8, 2022, the Basilica of Saint Mary will be hosting “Treasures of the Church,” a tour that gives people an experience of the living God through an encounter with the relics of his saints in the form of an exposition. Father Carlos Martins, a Companions of the Cross priest and a Vatican-appointed expert on relics, will begin with a multimedia presentation on the Church’s use of relics in the Basilica at 6:30 p.m. The presentation is Scriptural, catechetical, and devotional, leading to a renewal of the Catholic faith for many people. Then, after his 75-minute presentation, you will have an opportunity to venerate an extraordinary Vatican collection of over 150 relics, some as old as 2,000 years in the Basilica Lyceum Auditorium, 313 Duke Street.

Among the treasures will be relics of Saint Joseph, Saint Maria Goretti, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux (the “Little Flower”), Saint Francis of Assisi, Saint Anthony of Padua, Saint Thomas Aquinas, and Saint Faustina Kowalska.

There will also be a portion of the Veil of Our Lady and one of the largest remaining pieces of the True Cross in the world.  Those in attendance will be able to examine and venerate each relic.  Throughout history, many healings have been worked in the presence of relics and thousands have occurred through this ministry. Do not miss this opportunity. You are encouraged to bring your articles of devotion (such as rosaries, holy cards, etc.) and pictures of ill friends/family members, which you will be able to touch to the reliquaries as a means of intercession. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  Please spread the word and be sure to be here at the Basilica of Saint Mary on March 8 at 6:30 p.m.

The Basilica is located at 310 South Royal Street in Alexandria.
