The Knights of Columbus to Raise Money for Those with Intellectual Disabilities during May 3-4 2025
Here, in particular, are how the KOVAR funds have been used in the past:
➢ Home Loans – offering interest-free home loans of up to $250,000 to non-profit group home operators.
➢ Job skills training programs – provided needed skills and opportunities to enable persons with ID to earn a living and enhance their physical and mental health
➢ Life skills training programs – provide necessary life skills to enable more independence and enhance the quality of life for persons with ID.
➢ Transportation – provide funding toward the cost of vehicles to provide transportation to and from work, day programs, shopping, and social events. Many of these vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts and safety equipment designed to assist Virginians with ID.
➢ Startup programs – help establish new and innovative programs designed to assist individuals with ID and their families.
➢ Group Home Support – renovations, repairs, and furniture for group homes which provide housing in family-like settings.
➢ Athletic programs – enhances the wellness and social skills of persons with ID. The Virginia Knights of Columbus is a major financial sponsor of Special Olympics Virginia at the Legends Level. In addition to KOVAR, state and local councils provide year-round volunteer and financial support.
