This series presents a narrative summary of the major persons and events of Church history from Pentecost to the modern day. The story of the Catholic Church is presented in all its glory, success, and failure along with fascinating vignettes about the men and women, saints, sinners, heroes, and villains who most shaped Catholic history over the last 2,000 years. Fascinating tales of battles, councils, politics, and missionary adventures will embolden participants to grow deeper in love with Christ and His Church. This is history presented in an engaging style that will enliven each person’s sense of Catholic identity and knowledge of the family of God.
About the Speaker:
Steve Weidenkopf is an Adjunct Professor at the Christendom College Graduate School of Theology in Front Royal, Virginia. He is the author of Canceled: Twelve Catholic Heroes that History Turned into Villains (Catholic Answers Press, 2025), Light from Darkness: Nine Times the Catholic Church was in Turmoil and Came Out Stronger than Before (Catholic Answers Press, 2021), The Church and the Middle Ages: Cathedrals, Crusades, and the Papacy in Exile (Ave Marie Press, 2020), Timeless: A History of the Catholic Church (Our Sunday Visitor, 2019), The Real Story of Catholic History: Answering Twenty Centuries of Anti-Catholic Myths (Catholic Answers Press, 2017), and The Glory of the Crusades (Catholic Answers Press, 2014).
Steve is also a contributor to Religion and World Civilizations: How Faith Shaped Societies from Antiquity to the Present (2023) and The Palgrave Handbook of Religion and State, Volume II (2023).
Steve is the creator, co-author, and presenter of Epic: A Journey through Church History – a 20 session parish-based study published by Ascension Press (2009) and the author and presenter of The Early Church, a 10 session program on the first 500 years of Church history also available from Ascension Press (2012).
He has appeared as a guest to discuss Church History on numerous national Catholic radio and television programs including EWTN Live and Catholic Answers Live!
Steve is a member of the Society for the Study of the Crusades and the Latin East – an international academic group dedicated to the field of crusading history and is also a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.
Additionally, Steve is a Level 3 Certified Sommelier (National Wine School, 2023) and the owner of The Catholic Sommelier, a wine education company that specializes in wine classes, in-home wine tastings, wine consulting, and Catholic History and Wine pilgrimages to Europe.
Steve and his wife, Kasey, live in Northern Virginia and have six children and two grandchildren.
