Congratulations to the 2023 Basilica School of Saint Mary 8th-Grade Graduates

The Basilica School of Saint Mary’s 8th-grade graduation Mass was held this afternoon at the Basilica. Father Edward Hathaway, the Rector of the Basilica, presided at the Mass, with Father Joseph Townsend, Father Peter Clem, and Father Noah Morey also present. School faculty members and Basilica School Principal Robert Loia also proudly attended.

Here is an excerpt from Father Hathaway’s homily:

“Congratulations to all of our graduates and your families. Wonderful to celebrate this event in the Basilica, on the first Friday of June , a month dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, reminding us of His love and mercy for each one of us. It is His love that constantly blesses our life. … In our Gospel, Jesus reminds us that our life will be fruitful as we stay joined to the vine of Christ through His body, the Church. Not simply belonging to a community but of living the life of Christ, the life of grace which will bear fruit in your life on earth and in eternity. Keep growing in your faith, stay close to Jesus in the sacraments, Mass on Sunday, regular confession, get to know your priest chaplain, go on retreats – get to know Jesus personally and His love for you, and you will find your vocation.  Regardless of where you go to High School, stay connected with each other through our high youth group, WorkCamp and other faith experiences. … You are now ready for the adventure of high school, so be confident as you begin this next chapter of your story. Don’t be embarrassed to share your faith, be leaders, make friends and always remember you are a child of God. May Our Lady, cause of our joy protect and bless you and keep you close to the Heart of your Son.”
