Baptism preparation classes are offered on the first Monday of every month at 7:00 pm. Classes usually take place in the St. Joseph conference room which now houses the Basilica’s museum. Classes are held at St. Mary’s Lyceum which is located at 313 Duke Street. The class is open to parishioners and non-parishioners. It is required for any Basilica parishioners who want to schedule their child’s baptism here at the parish. Godparents may also attend, though the Basilica does not require this.*
While it is encouraged for both parents to attend, only one parent must attend class in order to obtain credit prior to his or her child’s baptism date. If parents cannot find childcare, one parent may stay home, though infants are welcome.
If you miss class and there is not another opportunity to attend class at the Basilica prior to your child’s baptism date, please call the Sacramental Coordinator at 703-836-4100.
*Other parishes may require godparents to attend baptism preparation class in order to participate as godparents at those respective parishes.
