1.  We were the top Council out of 150 statewide in one of the six service areas. We won the Church Service Award for our program “Expanding Devotion to the Rosary”. This award was presented at the annual dinner, and the Bishop of Richmond was in attendance. There will be a series of photos (soon) on the state web site.

2. We are one of ten councils to have achieved Star Council status (met our membership, insurance, and state deputy award goals), and we were recognized as one of four to have achieved Double Star status.  We also are the third fastest growing council in the state.

3.  We won an award for Outstanding KCIC Performance. Thirty councils were identified as top performers, and we ended up the third highest in the state.

4.  We won the State Deputy Award along with 31 other councils. This award is given to a council that meets all of its service goals, and has participated in Knight and Family of the Month and has nominated Knight and Family of the Year, along with a number of your programs. This is the toughest award to get, since you have to front load so much of your activity calendar. That’s why we’ve been so busy.

5.  We were singled out for high achievement in the Special Olympics Program, primarily for our Polar Plunge work.

Who are the Knights? Knights are Catholic men, 18 years of age and older, who are committed to making their community a better place while supporting their Church. Knights share camaraderie with men who hold similar values. Knights are involved with your community; they support your local Catholic Church and its causes, while deepening their faith; and they believe in protecting and enhancing their family life. The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic lay organization with more than 1.8 million members in 14,000 councils located throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Poland and several other countries. If you are interested in becoming a Knight, please contact our Membership Coordinator, Joe Castillo (email: jc305@evansville.edu; cell: 219-880-6889), and he will provide you with further details regarding the 1st degree exemplification process and dates as well as our various activities and charitable works. All the good works we do are informed by our four core principles: Charity – Our Catholic faith teaches us to “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Knights recognize that our mission, and our faith in God, compels us to action. There is no better way to experience love and compassion than by helping those in need, a call we answer every day. Unity – None of us is as good as all of us. Members of the Knights of Columbus all know that – together – we can accomplish far more than any of us could individually. Fraternity – The Knights were founded, in large part, to provide assistance to the widows and children left behind when the family breadwinner died. The Order’s top-rated insurance program continues to do this today, as do individual Knights, who last year gave more than 10 million hours of their time Patriotism – Members of the Knights of Columbus are patriotic citizens. We are proud of our devotion to God and country, and believe in standing up for both.

——————————————————–

Why become a Knight? In today’s world, many Catholic men are looking to fulfill their desire to spend meaningful time with their family, to serve their community and their Church, and to grow in their faith. Joining the Knights of Columbus provides these men and their families with volunteer opportunities and activities that accomplish these goals. If you are a man who is dedicated to making a difference, then membership in the Knights of Columbus is for you. Additionally, the Knights of Columbus also offers a portfolio of top-quality life insurance, long-term care, and annuity products exclusively for members and their families.
