Serving Thousands of Needy Alexandrians Each Year
ALIVE! (ALexandrians InVolved Ecumenically) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization of volunteers from more than 40 religious congregations and the community working together to help those in need in Alexandria, VA. The largest private safety net for the needy in the City of Alexandria, ALIVE! addresses the short-term to long-term needs of those less fortunate in the community. It was founded in 1969, with St. Mary’s as one of the founding congregations. ALIVE! serves thousands of Alexandrians annually, helping provide shelter; low-cost early childhood education and childcare; financial help for rent, utilities, medical care and other critical needs; emergency food; and deliveries of donated furniture and housewares. Through faith and love, ALIVE! helps people faced with emergency situations or long-term needs become capable of assuming self-reliant roles in the community.

More than 700 volunteers a year help ALIVE! fulfill its mission to put faith and love into action. Of ALIVE!’s seven programs, five are staffed and managed entirely by volunteers.
