Basilica of Saint Mary Advent Schedule

December 1st – Advent begins

December 5th – Christmas tree sales begin at the Basilica School of Saint Mary. They will continue until December 15th. The lot is open for business from 6:00 to 9:00 pm Monday through Friday and from 8:00 am until 6:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Read more about it here. 

December 6th – Memorial of Saint Nicholas. Plenary indulgence day. Second anniversary of our designation as a minor basilica.

– 40 Hours Devotion begins in the Basilica after the 12:10 pm Mass. Sign-up sheets are in the back of the Basilica. Read more about it here. 

December 7th – 40 Hours Devotion continues

– Breakfast with Santa and Friends from 8:00 to 10:00 am at the Basilica School of Saint Mary

– Saint Nicholas Day party and white elephant gift exchange for young adults. Meet for Mass in the Basilica at 5:00 pm. The party will be in the backyard of 307 and 309 South Royal Street after Mass. Please bring a wrapped gift for the gift exchange (between $10 and $20).

December 8th – 40 Hours Devotion ends before 7:00 am Mass

December 9th – The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mass times are at 6:30 am, 8:00 am, 12:10 pm and 5:00 pm.

December 13th – F3 Advent party for middle school parishioners from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in our school gym

December 14th and 15th – Bring wrapped gift for the Giving Tree to the Vigil Mass on December 14th or any of the Masses on December 15th.

December 14th – Advent morning of reflection with Father Hathaway. Hosted by the Catholic Daughters and open to all women of the Basilica of Saint Mary. Begins with Mass in the Basilica at 8:30 am and will conclude by 12:30 pm. More details are available here. 

– Young adult Christmas caroling. Meet for Mass in the Basilica at 5:00 pm. Caroling starts after Mass. A reception will follow caroling in the Lyceum.

December 15th – Bambinelli Sunday: Bring the baby Jesus from your Nativity set to be blessed at Mass.

– Lighting of the Basilica’s Christmas tree at 6:00 pm in the Basilica Courtyard

– Lessons and Carols in the Basilica at 7:00 pm

December 17th – Young adult evening of recollection with Father David Dufresne. Begins at 7:00 pm in the Basilica. Confessions will be available.

December 18th – Advent party for high school parishioners from 7:00 to 9:00 pm in Casa Frassati (307 South Royal Street).

December 20th – Christmas Dinner Basket Program donation drop-off from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm and preparation from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm in the Lyceum. Click here to learn more and to view a list of needed items.

– Additional Confession time at 6:30 pm

December 21st – Christmas Dinner Basket Program deliveries begin at 8:30 am. Meet at the Lyceum.

December 23rd – Additional Confession time at 7:00 pm

December 24th – Christmas Eve: Masses at 5:00 pm, 8:00 pm and 11:00 pm in the Basilica. There will also be a Children’s Mass and pageant at 5:00 pm in the school gymnasium.

December 25th – Christmas Day: Masses at 8:30 am, 10:00 am, 11:30 am and 1:00 pm in the Basilica.
