Steps to Become VIRTUS Compliant through the Arlington Diocese’s Office of Child Protection & Safety (formerly the Office for the Protection of Children & Young People or OPCYP):

1. Contact your Youth Coordinator. Give him or her your name, telephone number & email. Your Youth Coordinator will then pass on your information to the parish’s liaison to the Office of Child Protection & Safety and the liaison will follow up with you.
2. Register for mandatory VIRTUS training by going to arlingtondiocese.org/childprotection. Under “Related Links,” click on “VIRTUS Registration.” You will be taken to another page entitled “VIRTUS TRAINING.” Scroll down to the bottom right, where it says “To see upcoming VIRTUS: Protecting God’s Children training seminar in the Diocese of Arlington please click here.” Follow that link to the list of upcoming dates. Above these dates, you will see a button that says “Start Registration.” Click on this and fill out the necessary information.
3. During the registration process, whether online or in communication with the parish liaison, you must agree to a background check, complete a packet that lists previous and current jobs and home addresses, and get your finger prints taken at a local police station
4. Once these steps are completed, you and your Youth Coordinator will receive a confirmation email from the parish liaison that you are good to go!
