Basilica hosts Mass to welcome back Basilica School of Saint Mary teachers

The Basilica of Saint Mary hosted a Mass to welcome back the Basilica School of Saint Mary’s teachers on August 24. It was the day that teachers reported back to the school to prepare for the upcoming school year, which begins on September 8. Teachers that were unable to attend in the Basilica participated by watching the live video stream on the Basilica’s website.

Father Edward Hathaway, Rector of the Basilica of Saint Mary, celebrated the Mass. It was the Feast of Saint Bartholomew, Apostle.

“Christ formed the Apostles and sent them into the world,” said Father Hathaway during his homily. “We are sent because of our baptism with a particular mission to pursue holiness by giving ourself in love in our vocation, which is our call to marriage or the religious life, as well as your vocation as teachers. It is a special calling to be an educator, particularly a Catholic educator.”

“You put our boys and girls, whenever your teaching or administrating, in contact with Christ,” Father Hathaway added. “As Christians, we can become an instrument of the Holy Spirit. Your apostolate is not only to the boys and girls in our school, but also to all the families in our beautiful community.”
