Director of Music

David Elliott is the Director of Music at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Alexandria, Virginia, where he has served since February 2016. At the Basilica, David leads two ensembles: the eight-voice professional Schola Cantorum, which sings for the 10am Mass on Sunday as well as all major Feasts and Solemnities throughout the year; and the Basilica Choristers, a group of twenty children in grades 3 through 8 who sing once a month at the Basilica and receive weekly piano instruction. David also directs all concerts at the Basilica; during his tenure these have included works by Handel, Mozart, Schubert, Berlioz, Messiaen, and Pärt.

As a composer, David’s secular works have been performed on several continents and by many leading ensembles. His sacred choral works have been performed in such venues as the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., and in many churches throughout the Washington, D.C. area.
