The Basilica to Celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15, 2022

The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15, 2022, which is not a Holy Day of Obligation because it falls on a Monday this year, celebrates the spiritual and physical departure of the mother of Jesus Christ from earth, during which her soul and her body were assumed, or taken, into heaven by God.

The Basilica will celebrate this feast day with the availability of three daily Masses — at 6:30 a.m., 8 a.m. and 12:10 p.m. (during which music will be played). All are also invited to attend the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. in the Basilica, followed by a reception afterward in the Basilica’s courtyard, 314 Duke Street (or in the Lyceum, 313 Duke Street, in case of inclement weather).
