Alkemie members Elena Mullins, Tracy Cowart, Sian Ricketts, Niccolo Seligmann, and David McCormick will sing and play vielles, recorders, harps, and percussion in a program that includes music for the festival of Twelfth Night—the conclusion of Christmastide. Songs from Spain, Germany, England, France and Prague celebrate the Virgin Mary and the birth of Jesus, the travels of the wise men, and the joys of the season. Works are drawn from the twelth-century German repertoire of Hildegard von Bingen, thirteenth-century Cantigas de Santa Maria, the fifteenth-century Czech collection Codex Spécialník, traditional English carols, medieval French dances, and the sixteenth-century Spanish collection Cancionero de Upsala. Highlights include traditional favorites such as “There is no Rose of such vertu” and “Riu, riu chiu.”
