Basilica Parishioners Attend the 2025 National March for Life in DC on January 24, 2025
Led by Father Hathaway, a group of Basilica parishioners, and five diocesan seminarians, attended the March for Life in Washington, DC, this afternoon, joining thousands of other pro-life people representing the Culture of Life. According to the March’s website, “In the two years since the Dobbs decision, the pro-life community has fought the advancement of relentless and radical pro-abortion legislation at both the state and federal level; faced attempts to destroy and discredit pro-life pregnancy resource centers; and even battled deadly misinformation campaigns related to state pro-life protections – all which allow medical treatment to save the life of pregnant women.”
This year’s theme was: “Life: Why We March,” which “helps to encourage pro-life advocates to draw renewed energy for this challenging moment in the movement by reflecting on the basic truth that inspires the pro-life cause: every human life – including the unborn and their mothers – is beautiful, has unique dignity, and worthy of protection. In the short video, some of the Basilica group who attended the March reflected on why they were there:
The Reason Why the Miske Famiy Marched
Here’s another story from yesterday’s March for Life and why Lacy Miske and her family march. Lacy faced an unplanned pregnancy as a senior at the University of Notre Dame and chose life. Her daughter, Mary-Logan, whose first name was in honor of Our Lady, was born five months after Lacy graduated on “All Saints Day” in 1999.
As a single mother, Lacy went on to fulfill her Army ROTC commitment and served in the Army as a logistics officer, deploying to Iraq in 2003 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
In 2010 when Mary-Logan was 10 years old, Lacy reconnected with Bobby Miske, whom she had originally met in Army ROTC at Notre Dame. Lacy and Bobby married in 2011 and Bobby adopted Mary-Logan soon afterward. Mary-Logan is now 25 years old, a college graduate, and a pro-life activist with Students for Life of America. She is an inspiration to her younger siblings Wilson (12), Jackson (9), Liadan (6), and Martha (2).
Bobby is still active duty in the Army, and the Miske family have been parishioners of the Basilica of Saint Mary for four years now and love the opportunities so many of the church’s apostolates offer. This is their family’s 4th consecutive March for Life since moving to the area.
They march because they choose life.
