Roar! Basilica hosts Vacation Bible School

The Basilica of Saint Mary held its annual Vacation Bible School on June 24-28 on the campus of the Basilica School of Saint Mary. Nearly 90 kids participated and 60 volunteers, 50 of which were youth volunteers, worked to organize the camp.

“It is always rewarding to see the participants grow closer to Christ and have fun in the process,” said Hilary Munger, the Basilica’s Director of Religious Education. “Our volunteers were tremendous. We would not have been able to host this without them.”

The theme for this year’s camp was “Roar! Life is Wild, God is Good.”

“With our theme, we wanted to teach the kids to see the goodness of God when life doesn’t seem to go our way,” said Munger.

The week included reenacting Biblical stories, learning about saints, making tasty treats, and a variety of games.

“We were grateful to have Father Nicholas Blank offer Eucharistic adoration on the same day we learned about Saint Nicholas,” added Munger. “The kids loved interacting with our new Parochial Vicar.”

A food drive was also part of program. Participants collected 425 pounds of food for the Saint Lucy Project, which is a program of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Arlington.
