The Basilica Welcomes First Responders during an Ice Cream Social

Several dozen parishioners, many with children, attended an ice cream social in the Basilica Courtyard Tuesday evening to honor our local police and fire departments. It was part of National Night Out, an annual community-building campaign that promotes police/fire department community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. The Alexandria Fire Department had a fire truck in front of the Basilica for children to explore. There was also a Sheriff’s Deputy present.

Special thanks goes to our first responders who were present and also to Greg Doherty, a Basilica parishioner, who coordinated the evening.
