Camp Apostles is a day camp for middle school teens that of faith, fun, friends and service. All rising 10th graders to recently graduated seniors are invited to apply to be high school counselors for Camp Apostles this summer.
Our high school counselors will have the opportunity to work closely with the Assistant Director/Camp Director and summer intern to create the afternoon program that the middle school teens will experience throughout the week. Being a part of the program team means being able to use your gifts and talents to provide a fun and faith-filled time for the middle school teens after they’ve had a long day at the work sites. Some roles that you could take on are program director, tech director, prayer/formation director, environment/décor team, photographer, musician, skit actor, etc.
High school counselors will also be trained to lead small groups of 5-7 middle school teens. These small groups will be a way for our middle school teens to reflect on their experiences and discuss the impact they are having on their faith.
The camp runs daily from July 22nd to July 25th. It begins at 8:00am with daily Mass and the teens will get picked up at about 4:00pm every day. Counselors will be expected to be present by 7:00AM and as late as 5:00PM.
In addition to the actual week of camp, we will have several program team meetings and small group trainings throughout the summer. These will happen at least twice a month between May and the week of camp. Depending on preparations for the program team, counselors may be required to do preparation work at the youth office often, such as building decoration and prop materials for program or rehearsing skits. We will set aside a specific day once a week for the program team to meet and work on these preparations.
Those who are chosen to be high school counselors should expect to put in a total of 8-10 days of meeting and preparation work throughout the summer before Camp Apostles.
Our hope for this special week is for everyone involved (teen participants, parents, young adults and high school counselors) to go away with a deeper understanding of God’s love and a greater sense of belonging to the Basilica of Saint Mary community.
