Girl Scouts

About

For over 100 years, the Girl Scouts program has focused on building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. At St. Mary Church and School, we have a troop for each grade from Kindergarten through 8th grade. Troops are led by parent volunteers and they generally meet monthly at the school as well as participate in other activities outside the school. Our troop activities include camping, hiking, kayaking, museum visits, community service projects such as winter clothing drives or hosting Lenten Soup Suppers at the church, earning a variety of badges from cooking to first aid to public speaking. St. Mary Girl Scouts participate in faith-building activities throughout the year with special recognition given to them at our annual Scout Mass in February.

Experience

The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is a collection of activities and experiences each girl will have as she earns badges, sells cookies, explores the outdoors, does Take Action projects that make a meaningful difference, and much more.  Girls make new friends and go on fun adventures together.  Middle school scouts have the opportunity to earn their Bronze and Silver Awards, which prepares them to work for the Gold Award in high school – Girl Scouting’s highest award.

Promise and Law

Each Girl Scout follows the Promise and Law:

  • The Promise: On my honor, I will try: To serve God and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
  • The Law: I will do my best to be honest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, and responsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
